Liverpool won the 1980-81 UEFA Champions League, then known as the European Cup.
This marked the fifth successive side an English club had won the competition, with Liverpool winning the first two in the streak and Nottingham Forest winning the two prior to the Reds’ 1981 success. Aston Villa would win the following year to mark the first and only time the competition has been won six years in a row by teams from the same country.
Liverpool beat Real Madrid 1-0 at the Parc des Princes in Paris, France. This was Real Madrid’s first final since 1966, having featured in eight of the first 11 finals in the competition’s history.
