Ajax won the 1970-71 UEFA Champions League final, then known as the European Cup.
This would be the first of three successive titles for the Dutch club and the second in a row for a club from the Netherlands with Feyenoord having been the defending champions.
Ajax beat Panathinaikos 2-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium in London, England. In the process, the stadium, city and country all became the first to have hosted the competition’s final for a third time, having previously hosted the 1963 and 1968 finals.
