Brazil won the 1970 FIFA World Cup.
This was the first time the competition had been hosted outside of South America and Europe as it was held in Mexico, North America.
Brazil’s win was their third in four tournaments, having also won the 1958 and 1962 editions, this becoming the first nation to be world champions on three different occasions.
Mário Zagallo’s side thrashed Italy 4-1 in the final, held in front of more than 100,000 spectators at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
