Who was the first British £1 million footballer?

Trevor Francis was the first British £1 million footballer when he joined Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest from Birmingham City in February 1979.

The forward went on to score 28 goals in 70 league appearances for the East Midlands club, winning the European Cup in 1979 and 1980. He joined Manchester City the following year.
