Who was the first black player to play for England?

Viv Anderson was the first black player to represent the full England national team. The right-back was playing for Nottingham Forest at the time when Ron Greenwood handed the 22-year-old his debut in a 1-0 win against Czechoslovakia on Wednesday 29 November 1978.

He went on to play for Arsenal, Manchester United, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Middlesbrough before retiring in 1994. He won 30 caps for the England national team between 1978-88.
