Stefano Eranio scored the first official Premier League goal at Pride Park during Derby County’s 1-0 win at home to Barnsley on Saturday 30 August 1997.
The first Premier League game scheduled to be at Pride Park was between Derby and Wimbledon, on Wednesday 13 August 1997. The game went ahead and the Rams took a 20th minute lead through striker Ashley Ward. Chris Perry equalised within 60 seconds for the visitors before Stefano Eranio restored Derby’s lead after 32 minutes.
However, 11 minutes into the second half there was a loud bang in the stadium and the lights went out. Debuting referee Uriah Rennie decided to abandon the match before the power was eventually restored some 34 minutes later.
The game was rescheduled for Wednesday 22 October 1997, ending in a 1-1 draw.
