Who scored the first penalty in the Premier League?

Brian Deane scored the first penalty in the history of the Premier League, then known as the Premiership.

The Sheffield United striker had also scored the first goal in the history of the competition, on the opening day of the inaugural season on Saturday 15 August 1992.

Deane scored inside the opening five minutes against Manchester United, and then scored from the penalty spot, beating Peter Schmeichel five minutes into the second half after Gary Pallister brought Alan Cork down from behind inside the penalty area. Sheffield United went on to beat the Red Devils 2-1 at Bramall Lane.
