France hosted the 1998 FIFA World Cup between 10 June-12 July.
The European nation also won the tournament for the first time. It was the 16th edition of the competition and ninth time it had been hosted in Europe. It was also the first time the tournament had as many as 32 nations in the finals.
France defeated Brazil 3-0 in the final at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis on 12 July 1998.
