Who hosted the 1966 World Cup?

England were the hosts of the 1966 FIFA World Cup. The it was the eighth edition of the tournament and took place between 11-30 July 1966.

The tournament was won by the hosts – the third time in eight tournaments that this happened but this was the first time since Italy hosted the second ever World Cup, in 1934.

England beat West Germany 4-2 after extra-time in the final at Wembley Stadium, London, with Sir Geoff Hurst becoming the first and only player to date to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final.
